Since the reform and opening up in 1978, China has made remarkable achievements in economic development. China has become the second largest economy in the world and is on its way to become the world's largest economy. As part of the reform and opening up and economic development, China's capital market has evolved over 40 years to become the second largest capital market in the world, and has basically formed a multi-level capital market system consisting of Science and Technology Version, Main Board, Small and Medium-sized Board, Growth Enterprise Board and New Third Board. Theoretically, accounting research in China is indiscriminately based on the Chinese capital market and Chinese economy as well as the more fundamental Chinese institutional environment. In reality, for a period of time, Chinese accounting research has been mostly imported, from theory to methodology. Accounting is a part of social science, and social science research is based on the specific social institutional environment. The first step to "tell the Chinese story" is to know and understand the micro enterprises and market intermediaries in China and the institutional environment in which they live; only on this basis can we study the "real issues". Contemporary Accounting Review is committed to promoting the study of "real issues", encouraging the adoption of multiple research methods, promoting the description and analysis of China's institutional environment, and striving to be able to distill a "Chinese paradigm".
