East Asian International Symposium onAccounting & Spring School was held in Xiamen University between 13thand 15th February, 2012. This project is part of the "AsiaCampus" program, led by Tohoku University of Japan and was jointlyorganized by Xiamen University, Chonnam University of Korea and TaiwanUniversity, one of which will host it by rotation each spring. It is the firsttime for Xiamen University to host this year, and concrete contractors are Instituteof Financial & Accounting of Xiamen University, the Development ResearchCenter of Accounting and Accounting Department of Management School.
More than 50 teachers and students fromJapan, Korea, mainland of China and Taiwan conducted extensive discussion basedon a number of topics of theoretical research in accounting, the status quo andtrends of capital markets, tax system, accounting research of Japan, SouthKorea and Chinese Taiwan region, publication of accounting academic research,present situation and development of the accounting profession and auditingprofession, the possibility of a comparative study in terms of accountingstandards, tax accounting and corporate governance.
There were 26 lectures and reports throughoutthe three days, and the content of them is rich and full. The audience was alsoinvited to the Network of Networks Xiamen Software Co., Ltd. to visited and geta general understanding of the development and application of accountingeducational software. The audiences unanimously feel that this is a high levelof academic exchanges, a delivery of the latest professional knowledge andcommunication of research methods and institutional context and they feel theybenefited a lot.
The aim of this spring school is to promotecommunication of academic exchanges among accounting professions in Japan, SouthKorea and China, to discuss common issues on accounting research, to explorenew subjects of comparative studies and to improve the level of the accountingresearch of participant institutions and representatives. In addition, toundertake the regional academic exchange activities will have a great push andhelp to make the Institute to become an internationally renowned accounting andfinance research base, to further enhance the impact of this institute and the accountingdiscipline of Xiamen University in the Asian region and will also play animportant role to promote the "Campus Asia" program to developsmoothly.
