On December 9, 2018, the " New Colombo project" exchange delegation of 23 students and teachers organized by Western Sydney University, Australia, visited our university.
The " New Colombo project" is a landmark initiative launched by the Australian government, aims to support undergraduate students in Australia in India - Pacific countries to study and practice in order to improve their understanding of the region.
On the morning of December 10, the exchange activities began in hall 5 of Science and Art Center of our university. Dr. Dilupa from the Business School of Western Sydney University gave a speech at the event, expressed warm welcome and gratitude to all teachers and students who participated in the event, and briefly introduced the project, clarified the significance of this exchange activity, and hoped that the students of Western Sydney University would be rewarded in this trip. Next, students from Western Sydney University appeared in turn, briefly introducing their names, majors and expectations for participating in the event. Then, the initiators of the exchange activities, Professor Liu Feng of Xiamen University and Dr. Wu Huiying of Western Sydney University delivered speeches respectively. Professor Liu Feng expressed his hope that students from Western Sydney University would take this opportunity to taste the local food, deeply understand the characteristics of Xiamen, make Chinese friends, and understand China's unique culture and business practices. Dr. Wu Huiying expressed her sincere gratitude to the teachers and students of Xiamen University for their active support and participation. She said that the success of the activity is inseparable from their hard work, and she also hopes that the series of exchange activities can continue in the future.
In 2018, the " New Colombo project" was jointly sponsored by the accounting development research center of Xiamen University, the accounting department of Management School of Xiamen University and Western Sydney University. The exchange activity lasted for 10 days. Our university has made full preparations for this exchange activity, and organized a series of learning and cultural exchange activities for 23 teachers and students of Western Sydney University, including Professor lectures, campus visits, enterprise visits, cultural sightseeing, etc.
Xu Yanxiang, assistant professor of business management department, School of management, and Si Yi, assistant professor of accounting department, respectively introduced China's business environment and practice and unique Chinese traditional culture to the students of Western Sydney University with the themes of "Chinese enterprises' ability and overseas strategy" and "Chinese culture". The two well prepared lectures laid a good foundation for overseas students to understand China and helped them gain more profound experience in the follow-up visit and cultural sightseeing.
In addition to learning and understanding the history and current situation of China in the classroom, we also arranged business visits for the West Sydney exchange delegation, which gave them the opportunity to conduct field research and in-depth exchange with Chinese local enterprises. On the afternoon of 12th and the morning of 15th, accompanied by many student volunteers of our school, the Western Sydney exchange delegation visited Xiamen weiyou.com. By listening to the company's introduction of its existing technology and future plan, the students of Western Sydney University sorted out their questions and discussed with the enterprise personnel in-depth. They had a detailed understanding of the development and practical application of Chinese enterprises in big data and AI Artificial Intelligence. On the morning of the 15th, the delegation also visited Xiamen Xinchangrong Mechanical Engineering Co., Ltd. As a private enterprise located in Xiamen, Xinchangrong has left a deep impression on the students with its first-class technology, leading environmental protection concept and high market recognition.
Additionally, teachers and students from Xiamen University and Western Sydney University visited the famous cultural landscapes in the Southern Fujian: Nanjing Earth building, Gulang islet, Zhongshan street, and Xiamen University, the most beautiful campus in China. These places not only showed overseas students the beautiful natural and cultural landscape of China, but also deepened the profound friendship between the students from the two universities.
At the end of the exchange activity, a group report was presented in hall 5 of the Science and Art Center of our university on the afternoon of 19th. Teachers and students from Xiamen University and Western Sydney University, and Mr. Qin Yi, a representative of weiyou.com, attended the meeting. Focusing on the theme of "design thinking", each group creatively puts forward its own opinions and suggestions for the business model and future development of weiyou.com
The exchange visit is a continuation of the friendly relationship between Xiamen University and Western Sydney University. At the same time, the "new Colombo project" represented by this visit in Xiamen university plays an important role in enhancing Xiamen University's popularity and influence in Australia and even in the world. In the future, Xiamen University will further use its unique geographical advantages, seize the favorable policy opportunities, strive to promote the construction of "the belt and road initiative", lead the education exchanges and cooperation between countries and regions along the Maritime Silk Road, effectively improve the international education level of our school, and build our "double first-class" university reputation.
