On the evening of May 15, 2023, the 18th lecture "Guanya Cross Disciplines Statement" was held online and offline in Room 512, Jia Geng Building 2. Dr. Chen Yong, Director of the Market and Trade Research Office of the Institute of Science and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Forestry and Deputy Director of the Research Center for International Trade of Forest Products of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, is invited to give an academic lecture entitled "ESG: Ideal Colliding with Reality - The Process of global Forest Law enforcement and Governance and China's Practice".

Under the chairmanship of Professor Liu Feng, Dr. Chen Yong first started from the connotation of ESG, pointing out that ESG concept emphasizes that enterprises should pay attention to ecological environmental protection, fulfill social responsibility and improve governance level. Then, from the macro context, Dr. Chen analyzed the impact and causes of illegal logging and related trade. Dr. Yong Chen pointed out that illegal logging and related trade can lead to the sharp decline of biodiversity, the weakening of forestry law enforcement and forest management, and unfair trade competition. Therefore, it is necessary to verify the legality of forest products. To this end, the United Nations, as well as different groups of countries, economies, local governments, and civil society organizations, have introduced different levels of regulations and institutional requirements to strengthen restrictions on illegal logging to ensure a fair and orderly trade.

Then, Dr. Chen Yong introduced China's basic position on illegal logging and related trade and measures taken to combat illegal logging and related trade, promote global forest resource protection, promote sustainable forest management and promote international trade in forest products from the perspective of China's practice. At the same time, Dr. Chen also shared the concept of "zero deforestation" and its short and long term impact based on the new situation and new issues.

Finally, Dr. Chen Yong had in-depth exchanges and discussions with teachers and students on the economic benefits of shelterbelts, the measurement indicators of forest protection and the balance sheet of natural resources. This lecture has ended successfully!
