The paper "Using Machine Learning to Predict Corporate Fraud: Evidence Based on the GONE Framework" co-authored by, Associate Professor Xiong Feng, Department of Accounting/Accounting Development Research Center, Xiamen University and 2017 PhD student Xu Xin and Associate Professor An Zhe, Monash University, Australia, was published in the Journal of Business Officially published online in Ethics.

How to accurately predict corporate violations is a classic business ethics problem. Based on the GONE theoretical framework, this paper identifies a series of variables related to enterprise violations. They are classified as Greed-related variables, Opportunity-related variables, and Need-related variables and Exposure-related variables. We used six common machine learning models to predict corporate violations, and our experimental results showed that the Random Forest (RF) model showed the best predictive power in both efficiency and effectiveness. Based on the training results of the RF model, we found that compared with the other three types of variables, the exposure-type variable was more effective in improving the accuracy of enterprise breach prediction. The conclusions of this paper not only demonstrate the importance of exposure variables in the prediction of enterprise non-compliance, but also promote the practical application of machine learning methods in solving business ethics problems.
